Saturday 28th (Ben's Birthday)

Today Southern Hills and Carnarvon Christian School went to the Canberra Zoo. They had lots of endangered animals. Half of the kids got to feed a male white lion. The lions are massive and really bulky. We saw two sun bears that had been rescued from poachers. The sun bears got caught when they were only three weeks old. They got put in small cages and could only move from side to side. We came across a new Sumatran tiger. There was also an enclosure that had native Australian animals. We got to feed an emu called Moo. We also saw some monkeys that were really energetic and threw stuff at you. Finally before we left the zoo we got to hold a python. It was very small and it also felt weird. Connor

Hi everyone. Today I visited the National Australian Zoo and Aquariums to visit the animals. Some animals that we saw were white lions, sun bears, monkeys, birds, a leopard and tiger. At the aquarium I saw sharks, fish and also some reptiles. I had an awesome time at the zoo and it had been raining most of the time, which was hard to go along with, but I had a great time. Maddison.

Woke up at the usual time this morning, which was at 6.30am and having an early breakfast. There was toast, scrambled egg, baked beans and cereals. It was amazing. We then headed onto the bus and arrived at the zoo. First our tour guide came along and told us half of us were able to feed the lions and the other half feed the giraffe. The lion was amazing and it growled at a lot of people. I fed the giraffe with a carrot. It was good and I personally liked it all. All the activities that we did really worked out through to the end of the day. James.

Today we went to the Australian Institute of Sport. We started with a guided tour with an athlete named Rachael. She had a scholarship at the AIS for walking. The first place we went was where the gymnasts train. Rachael explained all of the equipment used and some of the records that were set. After that we walked across to another building which turned out to be the volleyball centre. We saw all the courts and the size of the net. It was huge! There was also a marker of the tallest person in the AIS volleyball team. The height of the net is just under the height for the records for high jump. After that we looked at the Olympians that had trained at the AIS. We then went to the swimming pools and looked at a video of how the pool works. The pool cost over 17 million dollars to build. Rachael showed us how the technical side of the pool works. It has some really cool ways to improve the athletes’ techniques and performances. After that we went upstairs to Sportex. There are items from history, video simulations and other pieces of equipment. The AIS is a really cool sporty place I enjoy. Benjamin K.

HI guys, today we went to the Zoo. We had one of best experiences of my life and it was awesome. I felt like a zoo keeper. Then we went to feed the lions. Some people got the lion to roar and some of the other people that did not get to feed the lions, lions got to feed the fourteen year old giraffe. He was very big and had a tongue about 43 cm long. It was huge. It was awesome feeding the giraffe. We also went to the Australian walkabout which was in the zoo. We fed the emu apple and then went to the Aquarium which was also in the zoo. We went there and held a snake and took photographs. We looked at lots of fish and snakes. We went to the hut at the zoo and ate lunch. It was amazing. We had wraps for lunch; we went into the Gift shop and bought some things. We went to the AIS and had a tour. Taj

To the family back home, today we went to the AIS (sport place). It was pretty fun. It was pretty fun, I liked the play part at Sportex. The best and favourite thing for me to do was the chin-up hold and it timed you. I versed Kay-Lee and I won. It hurt my arms. My friends Kay-Lee, Diya, Tori, and Lauren and I went and watched the dancing competition I wasn’t really into the dancing but the clothes were really nice. My other favourite activity at Sportex was a game where you jumped and pressed buttons and had to try to go as high as you could. There was also a board and a screen where you were racing and it was pretty fun. At the zoo I held a snake. It felt so cool! Lilly

  5. Hi Lyndon and all the Crew. We have been following your photos and stories every day and can see that you are having a fantastic time. It looks like the AIS was as much fun as it would have been interesting. I like the photo of you and Byron on the starting blocks. Who was fastest? Tiama is still jealous that you are there and she is stuck at home. Hope it's not too cold for you. I guess if you want to play in snow then it needs to be cold, so make the most of it. Enjoy the rest of your trip as it will be over before you know it. See you soon. Love Mum xxxxxxxxxx & Dad xxxxxxxxxx.

  6. Oh My Gosh!!! You guys got to feed a Lion or a Giraffe and then pat an Emu and hold a python. I'm so jealous!!! Glad you all made it out of the Zoo alive. Danika, you will need to tell me what you are feeding the Emu when you get back. Lachlan, was the Emu boring you? :-) Can't wait for your next blog!
